Will the hinge get loose or break after a while?

This is the number one concern, but don't worry. We use a reinforced barrel hinge (like a tiny door hinge) that is specifically built for movement. It’s designed to swing smoothly thousands of times without snapping or becoming wobbly.

Does the cover stay closed on its own?

By default, the hinge is free-swinging—so if you jump, gravity might open it. If you want the cover to 'snap' shut and stay firmly closed, we highly recommend adding magnetic closure. It costs a tiny bit more but feels incredibly satisfying.

How many surfaces can I actually design?

You actually get three canvases: 1) The Front Cover (outside), 2) The Inside Reveal (the bottom layer), and 3) The Back of the Cover (the inside lid). Most people leave the inside lid as textured metal, but you can put a hidden message there too!

I don't know how to draw the hinge structure.

You don't need to. Just send us two separate flat images: one for the 'Cover' and one for the 'Inside'. Our engineering team will calculate the hinge placement and send you a digital proof showing exactly how they connect.

Is it too heavy to wear on a shirt?

A hinged pin is essentially two pins stacked together, so it is heavier than a standard badge. We always weld two back posts (instead of one) on the back. This distributes the weight evenly so it sits perfectly straight on jackets or bags without sagging.
